ASHRAE TC 2.6 Mission Statement TC
2.6, Sound and Vibration Committee is concerned with the
fundamental scientific and engineering principles of acoustics
and vibration, particularly as they are applied to problems of sound
and vibration associated with air conditioning, heating,
ventilating, and refrigeration systems. It is our mission to
sponsor, collect, and distribute information that will enable ASHRAE
members and their associates to design and build quiet and
vibration-free buildings. Our
priorities are: 1) To
develop and continuously improve noise control prediction methods; 2) To
publish the best methods for the control of noise and vibration due
to the operation of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and
ventilating systems; 3) To
understand and communicate sound measurement methods, sound rating
methods, and acceptable noise criteria; and |

Meetings are chaired by Subcommittee chair or vice chair. The point of the meeting is to get reports from task groups and subcommittees and initiate new activities where needed. Anyone from anywhere who is willing to contribute may be a member of the Subcommittee. All interested parties may attend Sub-committee meetings and may contribute to the proceedings by putting forth their contributions through one of the sub-committee members and when the Sub-Committee Chair opens the floor to non-members of the Sub-Committee members. In cases where consensus cannot be reached through discussion, normal TC 2.6 voting procedures will be used.
Task groups are expected to have a finite lifetime. Subcommittees are expected to have a long lifetime. The Executive Sub-Committee consists of the Chairs of the standing Sub-Committees and others as designated by the TC 2.6 Chair.
